Which Language Learner Type are you?

Some of us are natural language learners who pick up languages just by listening and imitating. Others prefer to understand the structure of the language first; yet others prefer the social side of it all. There may be those who think learning languages in the day and age of machine translators is obsolete, but even they may want to train their brain...

Take this fun quiz
to find out about your predominant language learning style - and what else you would benefit from.

1. You are abroad, and the first person you need to talk to doesn't speak English.
How do you deal with that?

2. You are trying to speak a new language. A native speaker corrects your mistakes.
How do you usually take that feedback?

3. You are learning in a group. What kind of class activities do you enjoy the most?

4. What would you do most while alone to practice the language?

5. When you notice an error in how something is said or written, what’s your first reaction?

6. What tends to frustrate you most when trying to learn something new?

7. How do you feel about learning a language in our contemporary world?

8. What does "knowing a language" mean to you?

9. What matters for you most when using another language in real life?

10. You have a short, regular time slot available (for example, 15–20 minutes a day).
How would you rather use it?

11. You’re comparing two translation apps and notice they give different results for the same sentence. What’s your reaction?

12. You’re trying to watch a film in a language you're learning for the first time.
What do you focus on most?

13. You meet someone who speaks a language you’re learning. They also speak fluent English.
How do you act?
