Fear of Meeting People
There was this case of a man, who trained for the Olympic Games in ski-jumping. His sport thus involved speeding down a mountain as fast as a car would go and flying over the air for a distance so long that it was hard for the eye to believe, only to land on nothing but icy snow on a pair of wooden sticks. Doing this provoked no fear in him, it gave him excitement! Yet the same man was downright terrified when it came to meeting new people.
His is the story of many who fear meeting people. Often it is the most successful among us who fear nothing when it comes to business, sports or other enterprises, but feel profound fear when they get into a situation when they will be meeting new people on a more casual basis, especially members of the opposite sex. For others, the fear of meeting people might include business meetings as well, and therefore their fear hinders them in their career. They might fear meeting all sorts of new people, even though they might be very effective working on their own and very kind and compassionate in their existing social relationships. Whatever the reasons for our fear of meeting people are, the point is that we all have an area of life where we feel competent and secure.
When treating fear of meeting people with hypnotherapy, the goal is to transfer all those good feelings from situations in which we feel confident to those in which it comes to meeting new people, of which we previously had a fear of. At the end of the day, even the most socially confident person knows what fear of meeting people is, insofar, that no one likes the idea of being rejected. However, we can combat our fear by mobilising our inner resources to make sure we actually feel good when we meet people. Hypnotherapy can help us to relax and concentrate on what we want, to visualise a future in which we are happy about meeting new people and leave our fear in the past for good.
