Stammering
Stammering (dysphemia) is a disorder of fluency of speech, which affects approximately one person out of a hundred. Stammering can have a wide range of manifestations, and it is often accompanied by a feeling of loss of control. The origin of stammering is unknown; however, it is sometimes linked with emotional stress or trauma, in many cases from childhood. Stammering is ten times more common with children than with adults, because most children simply grow out of stammering. Also, stammering is four times more common in men than in women.
Stammering is not connected to any organic problem in the brain and neurologically, brain scans are normal when the person affected is not stammering. However, scans taken during stammering show an increased brain activity in the relevant brain areas (brain activities can be slowed down through hypnosis or self-hypnosis).
Stammering, as we have seen, is not an organic problem, but a learned behaviour that can become worse when under stress, facing authority figures or the opposite sex. Ultimately, it is a habit that is governed by the unconscious mind. Hypnotherapy is a powerful tool to access the unconscious and to reprogramme your thinking at exactly the same level on which stammering occurs. Usually, stammering can be treated in hypnotherapy in a single or a few sessions, depending on the individual case. We always ensure to help you in as few sessions as possible.
If you seek hypnotherapy treatment for stammering, your hypnotherapist would want to know when it started, what makes it better or worse and how the condition makes you feel. Please feel free to contact us, to find out whether you could trust us to help you. Stammering might be a rather intimidating, and socially debilitating condition, but the good news is that for most cases, hypnotherapy can help, in a fast and effective way to deal with it.
